VOLUNTEER positions

All skills welcome! no music experience required

ASSEMBLY LEADER 
  • No music experience required. A positive, engaging presentation style is expected. 
  • Preference to women and gender-expansive volunteers. 
  • During camp week you'll lead 15-30 minute icebreakers, perform skits, make announcements, raise camper energy, and build community for all 50 campers and some fellow volunteers. 
  • Prior to camp week, you'll work with leadership staff to create activities to start and/or end each day on a positive note. 
  • May combine with other part-time positions. 
  • Requires some work prior to camp for preparation and planning.
  • Part-time
  • Shifts available: Monday-Friday 12:45pm - 1:20pm

WORKSHOP LEADER 
See the potential time-slots below. Develop and/or lead a 45-50 minute workshop to campers of varying ages, skills and interests. This year we are offering several tracks for our rockers to sign up for:
  •  Musical Performance (for example: stage presence, songwriting, guitar pedals, beatboxing, jam sessions, etc.)
  •  Audio and Technical Music Elements (ex: soundboard navigation, running lights, equipment setup, gear care, etc.)
  • Activism (ex: feminism, social justice, radical cheerleading, diversity/inclusion in music, etc.)
  • Self-care (ex: body image, consent, conflict resolution/collaboration, rock 'n' roll yoga, style, punk rock aerobics, etc.)
  • DIY arts and crafts (ex. creating zines, flyers, instruments/music accessories, etc.)
  • The DIY music biz (ex. booking shows, internet/local music marketing, band management, keeping the band going)
  • General workshop track (ex. special guests presentations, herstory of womxn in music, new music discovery, etc.)
  • Shifts available: 3-5pm

We request that proposed workshop content be presented to workshop committee for evaluation prior to camp. We ask that workshops take a hands-on, solutions-focused approach and include learning activities where our campers are actively problem-solving for issues. If your workshop is a lecture, we'll work with you to create something hands-on for learning creation. During camp, you'll coordinate with our Programming Manager and floaters. May combine with other part-time positions. Will require prep work prior to camp week.

BAND COACH 
  • Music and/or band experience is required. Preference to women and gender-expansive volunteers. 
  • Supervise practice sessions for one of our fabulous camper bands. Mentor and coach campers. 
  • Must be willing to let campers explore their own process of songwriting and performance. Your role is to support and coach, in partnership with the Band Manager. 
  • Assist with band formation and dynamics.
  • May mentor Junior Band Coach. May combine with other part-time positions.
  • About 10-15 positions available.

BAND MANAGER 
  • Equivalent to a camp counselor
  • Commits to the full week of camp, M-F from about 1p.m. to 6 p.m. (with breaks!)
  • No music experience required. 
  • Preference given to women and gender-expansive nonconforming volunteers. 
  • You’ll be assigned to one band (4-6 campers) to spend the week with. 
  • Mentor/support the band
  • Participate in activities and meetings
  • Assist the band coach (who will have music experience) in group dynamics, band collaboration and decision making
  • May field questions, concerns, comments from your campers’ caregivers. 
  • We ask you to attend the end-of-day staff meetings to address challenges, engage in solution-focused problem solving and report back on band progress. 

SHUTTERBUGS: PHOTOGRAPHERS AND FILMMAKERS 
  • No music experience required. Your work will be credited. Girls Rock Denver will share in copyright and may use in promotional materials with a credit to your work. 
  • Officially document camp. Take screenshots and video capture of virtual camp hangs. 
  • Create end-of-camp 'yearbook.' Work with bands to create music videos and band photos. 
  • Edit and do post-production for GRD pre-recorded content.
  • Coordinate with "hype squad" for social media presence and content.
  • Ensure compliance with camper photo/video release waivers. 

RECORDING ENGINEER
  • Basic recording/mixing experience required. 
  • Record final band songs for their music videos. This will require the remote recording of each band members' part and then creating a final mix.
  • Help edit and set up annual Bandcamp and/or Soundcloud access to recordings. 
  • May combine with other part-time positions.

GEAR HEADS 
  • Pre-camp inventory - test and prepare gear and instruments - assess new gear needs.
  • Put together gear instruction manual (assembly sheet w/ tips and tricks on maintaining gear).
  • Pick up crew (to schedule/coordinate with caregivers who are picking up equipment).
  • Gear intake (at storage unit for gear drop off day).
  • Gear support (work with techies to provide tech support with connecting instruments and sound gear).
  • On-site gear/instrument support and troubleshooting; coordinate with Roadies.

MENTAL HEALTH SQUAD 
  • No music experience required. Experience with children in a counseling or education environment is preferred. 
  • Preference to women and gender-expansive licensed professionals or social workers. 
  • Provide support, conflict resolution, and crisis management for campers ages 8-17.
  • Support staff, interns, and junior volunteers throughout the week of camp. 

INSTRUMENT INSTRUCTORS 
  • Music experience required. Preference to women and gender-expansive volunteers.
  • Ideally able to commit to Monday-Friday mornings.
  • Bass, beats (electronic music), drums, guitar, keyboards, and vocals.
  • Work with campers ages 8-17 with a range of musical experience. 
  • Will require some pre-camp work to coordinate with other instructors to agree upon curriculum and roles, and work with lead instrument instructors. 
  • May mentor Junior Instrument Instructor volunteers. 
  • May combine with other part-time positions. 

HYPE CREW & STREET TEAM 
  • No music experience required. Marketing or social media specialists preferred. 
  • Graphic design for GRD.
  • Daily dripper (putting out daily content for camp week).
  • Work with others on the team to craft a marketing strategy. 
  • Create camp-week social media posts to help drive traffic to music video showcase. 
  • Flyering/postering at local businesses and supportive partners. 
  • May combine with other part-time positions. 
  • May be required to attend some pre-camp coordination meeting(s).

PRODUCTION ASSISTANTS (PAs) 
  • Camper attendance and check-ins with volunteers and campers.
  • Content moderation (are there legal issues using other people's online content?)
  • Caregiver/parent liaison (respond to e-mail and phone communications/concerns)
  • Staff and volunteer support (running errands, volunteer check-in, unexpected needs, etc.)
  • On-call miscellaneous stuff

ROADIE 
  • No music experience required. Vehicle for transport, valid driver license, and insurance required. 
  • Girls Rock Denver is not liable for any damages to personal belongings. Requires some pre-camp set-up. 
  • Help move and set up gear for instrument instruction and band practice.
  • May combine with other part-time positions, especially 'gear head.' 

LUNCH BAND - 5 bands needed (1 per weekday)
  • Music experience required. Perform for campers at end of camp. 
  • Band must feature at least 50% women or gender-expansive individuals. 
  • May combine with other part-time positions.
