about our Summer rock camp
The 2025 dates for our summer rock camp will be announced soon!
What typically happens at camp?
Instrument Instruction
At our six-day camp, rockers learn to play an instrument, mentored by local musicians and instructors who have donated their time. Instrument tracks include: guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, vocals, and for 11+ — electronic music (Ableton Software — we call this track "beats"). Rockers do not need to have any previous experience in their selected instrument track. We provide instruments but rockers are allowed to bring their own equipment if they wish.
Band Practice and Songwriting
At the beginning of the week, Monday, rockers form bands with peers in their age groups. Throughout the week they write a song together (with the coaching from a local musician). Then, on the concluding Saturday of camp, they perform with their band at our all-camp public showcase, which open to family, friends, and the community.
Workshops
In addition to the music-related elements of camp, rockers attend workshops throughout the day relating to musical performance, feminism, social justice, self-care, DIY, music business, arts/crafts, etc. We aim to empower rockers through education, hands-on experimentation and community problem-solving.
Example Schedule
Our six-day camp runs Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. A typical day looks like:
Fee
The camp "tuition" varies year-to-year depending on results of our fundraising events. As an organization that is 100% donations-funded, we attempt to keep our recommended fee low and offer a sliding scale to our applicants. The 2024 recommended camp fee is $325 per attendee.
We ask applicants to commit to paying what they can. Those who can contribute more than the $325 help provide those who require financial assistance with the opportunity to attend our program. We believe that everyone who wants to come to rock camp, belongs at rock camp, and shouldn't face financial hardship to do so. Those who cannot pay $325 should definitely apply! Financial assistance is dependent on our fundraising outcomes and community support through donations and sponsorship.
