Volunteer Opportunities
Ongoing Positions
Graphic Design
Design and create fliers, brochures, business cards, and logos for merchandise. Establish relationships with businesses and individuals that can provide printing/screenprinting services.
Marketing
Maintain MySpace, Facebook, Twitter and other social media accounts. Check and respond to messages, add and solicit friends, post bulletins, maintain event listings, etc. Must have reliable Internet access and ability to post and repost bulletins and check and respond to messages at least once a day. Identify neighborhood newspapers and write and submit ads soliciting equipment donations and volunteers. Research, identify, and build relationships with places to advertise camp. Write and send press releases and event notices.
Fundraising & Grant Writing
Work with GRD advisory board to build and maintain relationships with individuals, businesses, and other organizations to garner donations. Research, identify, and help write grants and proposals.
Donations Coordinator
Contact local businesses, organizations and individuals to secure donations of equipment, food, and supplies. Assist GRD board in ensuring all donors receive tax receipts, thank you letters, and recognition.
Community Outreach
Identify and build relationships with schools, community organizations, businesses, musicians' organizations, etc. in order to recruit camp volunteers and attendees, increase community awareness of Girls Rock Denver, and build community partnerships.
Equipment Manager/Assistant
Solicit donations and loans of instruments and accessories. Aid in pick up of donations. Maintain inventory of all equipment and gear. May also recruit volunteers to store and care for equipment and help with annual equipment drive.
Event Planner
Plans, organizes, and schedules special events. Maintains relationships with venues, community organizations, musicians, and volunteers.
Volunteer Coordinator
Processes volunteer applications, ensures background checks are run, maintains contact and distributes information to volunteers and potential volunteers. Works closely with GRD board members to plan and host volunteer trainings. Creates and maintains database of volunteers and potential volunteers.
Camp Positions
Background checks will be run on anyone applying for a camp position or working directly with campers.Gear Coordinator*
Ensures that all practice spaces are equipped with enough gear throughout the day. Ensures that equipment is properly maintained and stored throughout the camp and showcase. Possibly lead a workshop on gear care and handling. This position requires a commitment for the full week of camp.
Roadies
Aid in set up and breakdown at camp and for showcase. Help transport equipment to and from camp and showcase venues. This position requires a commitment of Sunday afternoon prior to camp and/or Saturday afternoon and evening.
Instrument Instructors*
Musical experience required. Guitar, bass, drum, keyboard, and vocal instructors needed to work with girls aged 8-18 with a range of musical experience. May double as a band manager or coach. This position requires a morning only commitment during the week of camp.
Camp Manager*
Oversee camp planning and logistics. This position requires a commitment for the full week of camp.
Band Managers*
Check in assigned campers in the morning and check them out in the afternoon. Lead them to and from instrument instruction, workshops, and band practice. Check in with campers during lunch. Aid in conflict resolution, provides support and encouragement, and ensures that campers are having a positive camp experience. No musical experience required. May double as an instructor. This position requires a commitment for the full week of camp.
Band Coaches*
Musical experience required. Supervise loud and quiet practice sessions of assigned band. Offer positive suggestions throughout songwriting process and encourage teamwork. Must be willing to let girls explore their own process of songwriting. Communicate with band managers, instrument instructors, and other staff about tension in the band. Coaches may double as band managers or instrument instructors. This position requires a commitment for the full week of camp; however, the commitment may not be for the full camp day.
Drama Trauma*
Provide support, conflict-resolution, and crisis management for campers ages 8-18, as well as support for staff, volunteers, and interns throughout the week of camp. Experience with girls in a counseling or education environment recommended. May be combined with other positions. This position requires a commitment of 4 hours (morning or evening shifts), days are flexible.
Showcase Coordinator*
Coordinate sound, lighting, roadies, and other crew needed for Saturday showcase. Work with Equipment Manager and Assistant, Gear Coordinator, and Roadies to make sure all necessary equipment is transported to and from the showcase. Also, coordinates volunteers to work the door, staff the merch table, and any other positions needed to help the showcase run smoothly. This position requires a commitment of at least the full day and evening on Saturday and several hours Friday afternoon.
Audio/Visual/Tech Support
Ensure audio and visual equipment is properly set up and working during workshops and assemblies. May run sound for camp lunch bands.
Recording Engineer
Records camper showcase. This position requires a commitment for Saturday 11am to 6pm only.
Photographers
Document the camp experience throughout the week. Take official band photos and photographs the showcase. This position requires a commitment for the full week of camp; however, times of day are flexible except for Saturday showcase and showcase preparation.
Videographer
Film and edit camper showcase. If available, film activities throughout the camp week. This position requires a commitment for Saturday 11am to 6pm.
Morning/Afternoon Assembly Leaders*
Ensure that camp environment is fun and welcoming. May lead icebreaker activities, perform skits, make announcements, etc. Will work with Girls Rock Denver board members and camp volunteers to create activities to start and end daily camp sessions on a positive note. May be combined with other camp positions. This position requires a commitment of only 1 or 2 hours in the morning and/or afternoon.
Camper Lunch Bands
Perform for campers during their lunch hour. All genres welcome. Band members must be all or predominantly female. This position requires a commitment to perform one day during the week of camp from 12:00-1:00 p.m.
Guest Band Liaison*
Assist with lunch band setup during camp. Help band load into the space and make sure they have their needs met. This position requires a commitment for the full week of camp.
Workshop Facilitators*
Will work with Girls Rock Denver board members to create workshops that build self-esteem and encourage self-expression and creativity. May teach a skill such as zine making, assertiveness, or screenprinting, or may facilitate conversations about issues pertaining to girls and/or music. This position requires a commitment of 1-2 hours, days and times are flexible.
Parent Liaison*
Dedicated to addressing questions and concerns of campers' parents throughout the week. Ideally, the person who fills this position is a parent. This position requires a commitment for the full week of camp.
Receptionist*
Help with camper check-in, monitor visitors, handle phone calls, answer questions, and give directions. This position requires a full day commitment throughout the week and a half day on Saturday. This position may be shared so that one individual does not have to commit to the full week.
Snack Patrol
Help pick up and serve lunch and snacks to campers and volunteers. Maintain kitchen and eating space. This position requires a half-day commitment (mornings) throughout the week of camp and on Saturday.
Floaters*
Provide support and relief to all camp staff by giving breaks, running errands, setting up or assisting with workshops, sitting in on band practices, etc. Help maintain camp facilities. Days and times of this commitment are flexible.
